about

The Hysterians
Tim: guitar, Ben: other guitar, Will: bass, Kevin: drums

Outta My Head
Our very first recording! A classic Tim song. A french guy named Laurent liked the song so much he pressed it on a 4-band split 7”. We met him on his vacation at Down at Lu-Lu’s where Seth nicknamed me, Tim, and Kevin: Small, Medium and Large. We ate burgers together and gave Laurent a T-shirt.

The Sailor
Like all good songs this one was written with a wicked hangover. Recorded in mom’s living room the same day as Outta My Head. Ben’s tremolo is killer. All the Slayer fans at the Caravan Lounge loved this one and the bartenders gave us all the free Miller High Life’s we could possibly drink…which was a lot!

Not Fade Away
Excellent intro by Kevin…dueling vocals by me and Tim. I don’t remember recording this. But it sounded like a good time!

Bo Diddley’s Roller Coaster
Our very own original Bo Diddley song! The neighbors really liked this one! Gotta love the drum fills and the “woahs”. I tried to do my best Pretty Things bass line, but I guess we forgot to overdub it…

Diddy Wah Diddy
Continuing our Bo obsession, in the Beefhart style. I remember experimenting with sound separation in the garage where we practiced/recorded. I got some giant boxes from work and put everyones amps in them to reduce sound bleed. It seemed to work, but what the hell was I thinking…

Too Much Pressure
Another Tim classic! So young and angry and forgetful…where’s the bass? “I like her face she’s kinda cute…until I see those dumb ugg boots!”

Why Did You Lie
No more Ben, but we were still in the garage (it just belonged to someone else’s mom). At the time, I thought the middle part sounded a like Roy Orbison.

Treat Me Fine
I don’t know what to say about this one. It was a new one, but an old one, re-written or whatever.

I’m a Lover Not a Fighter
Thanks Paul for letting us borrow your reverb tank! Cranked it way up and added some handclaps. Always a fun one to play live. We could never figure out the Kink’s intro so we improvised. Reminds me of the Stork Club.

Thee Bongo Party
Will: guitar, Tim: bass, Kevin: bongos

Bongo Party
We were messing around the garage one day and Kevin started wailing on a pair of bongos that appeared from seemingly nowhere. We were super into the Davie Allan 45 of “Blues Theme” b/w “Bongo Party” from the Wild Angels soundtrack. Tim and me switched instruments to keep it totally different from The Hysterians and the name is a take on one of our favorite bands at the time Thee Makeout Party.

Ambush
The first song we wrote, about a dangerous wild safari…watch out for the Natives!

Carnitas
An ode to our favorite food…TACOS!

Drive-in
We found more inspiration from the Beach Boys Party album. Somewhere there exists a “dirty” version of the song where Gavin sings about weiners and butts and farts and stuff.

Jack the Ripoff
The name explains it all… or was it Rip the Jack Off?

Can’t Be True
A Fever’s tune. BAH BAH BAH…BAH BAH BAH

Crashers
As in party crashers. The Masochist himself, Gary Busey, would be proud. Stay out of the oven!

Bongo Party (Live)
People went really nuts the first time they saw and heard the bongos in action. Kevin was so damn fast! This was recorded at the world famous Fabric House in San Francisco. Paul was host to many many good bands and parties. RIP

Lonely Caveman
Me and Tim recorded the guitars in my bedroom and I overdubbed the double vocals and drums. I have no idea how Tim played that trippy echoey guitar part, but it came out great! We couldn’t fit the song into any of our bands, probably cause it was way too damn long. But the lyrics just kept on coming! oh well….
